So we’re three weeks in this year and I’ve been falling behind on the list of projects I’m working on, not what I’d call a good start. Specially when I plan to build more things this year. Maybe I should use this post as a TODO and timeline of what’s coming.
Right now I am planning to take Bucket and expand it as an iphone game, I had been thinking about that for a while and figure this is just a good time to go through with it. The iphone is just perfect for it and with oF for iphone it should be a breeze to get it done. That’s first on the list this year.
Last year I started a robotics related project that’s slowly been moving forward, I recently repaired an broken thinkpad laptop I had laying about so that I can use it as the brains of the operation. It’s running both Linux and Windows so it could double as a workstation whenever I have to port any of my code (the next version of ofxSpeech for example). I’m really looking forward to wrap the first stage of this project in early February.
Then there’s the updates and (possible) rewrite of ofxSpeech, I have been working a bit with Julius in the past months to see if I can just wrap ofxSpeech around it and package it completely as a standalone library. Given that Julius works nicely on Windows, OS X, and Linux it would make my work of porting the thing much easier than if I stuck with trying to find individual engines for each operating system… it also makes the entire thing much more consistent across OSes. This is going to involve some work, but I really want to do it the first half of this year.
There’s a number of other things down the pipeline, but this seems a good starting point. I’m actually glad I revived the old laptop ’cause I will be needing it as a standalone brain for a number of robotics projects.
I will be posting on the development of these projects as they become more of a reality and less of a plan.txt file on my desktop.
On non-project related notes, this year comes with a few more climbing trips. There’s a couple of projects in HP40 I want to put down and finally send as well as new locations I plan to visit with Team Venture… New River Gorge, OBED, and Sandrock are at the top of the list.
